SODIUM-ION ENERGY STORAGE
TECNED integrates sodium-ion battery technology into modular building blocks and complete energy systems from 48 V DC battery modules to UPS-grade energy platforms and scalable BESS cabinets.
Unlike conventional lithium-based solutions focused on maximum energy density, TECNED Sodium-ion is engineered for thermal stability, electrochemical robustness, and predictable lifetime behaviour. The NFPP sodium-ion chemistry delivers a lower intrinsic thermal risk and stable performance across a wide temperature range, enabling safe indoor deployment in technical environments.

| Behavior | NFPP sodium-ion | LFP lithium-ion |
| Deep cycle Life | Ultra-Long deep cycle life due to rigid crystal lattice | LFP lifespan declines when cycled at high depth |
| Low temperature operation | No preheating required. No adverse effect / dendrite formation | Preheating required to prevent dendrite formation |
| Heavy mechanical abuse | Failure results in lower temperature events / cell to cell propagation less likely | Failure cause high temperature catastrophic events causing cell to cell propagation |
| Heavy electrical abuse | Higher resistance against overvoltage | Overvoltage will cause failure |
| Metal deposition at negative electrode (note) | Unlikely, limited deposits only under extreme abuse | Main cause for short circuit and failure |
| Dangerous gas release in failure mode | Primary non-toxic/lower risk gases | hazardous, carbon-rich smoke / vapors |
| SEI layer stability | Low resistance, highly stable SEI layer prevents spike grow | Repeated SEI layer reconstruction allow spikes grow |
| Oxygen release during failure mode | Stronger resistance to oxygen release and thermal runaway | Less strong bonding to oxygen due to less ridged crystal structure |
Note / It requires extreme electrical abuse (charge > 130%). In standard use, fast charging, or cold weather, the risk of spike formation in NFPP is a fraction compared to LFP
Sodium-ion is not a single chemistry. TECNED deliberately selects NFPP-based sodium-ion cells, prioritising intrinsic safety, thermal stability, and predictable lifetime behaviour over maximum energy density. This makes the technology particularly suitable for indoor stationary energy storage.
The sodium-ion battery market features three main competing cathode technologies: NFPP, Layered Metal Oxides and Prussian White
| Feature | NFPP (Polyanionic) | Layered Oxides | Prussian White (PBA) |
| Crystal Structure | 3D Polyanionic / NASICON framework | 2D Layered sheets (similar to NMC) | Open-framework cubic lattice |
| Energy Density | Lowest (~100–120 Wh/kg) | Highest (~140–175 Wh/kg) | Medium-High (~155–170 Wh/kg) |
| Cycle Life | Exceptional (8,000 to 10,000+ cycles) | Shortest (2,000 to 4,000 cycles) | Moderate (2,000 to 5,000 cycles) |
| Thermal Runaway | Highest safety (>270°C) | Lowest stability (~160°C–200°C) | Safe (unless severe overcharge occurs) |
| Principal Benefit | Extreme durability & absolute safety | Highest capacity & drop-in manufacturing | Low raw material cost & cold performance |
| Main Application | Indoor energy storage / back-up | Micro EVs, scooters, compact cars | Large scale power back-up |
